10 Reasons to Be a Member is an invitation to take part in the life of the Frankfurter Kunstverein by becoming a member. Various artists and theorists have been invited to propose the reasons for why a membership in the Kunstverein is really worthwile. The result has become a very personal archive of opinions, narratives, reasons, arguments and art works that invites the visitor to participate actively in the institution through becoming a member. Presented on the ground floor of the Kunstverein, 10 Reasons to Be a Member gives the public a possibility to get a peek into the history and the structure of the house. Apart from this, 10 Reasons to Be a Member would like to generate curiosity and awareness of the importance of supporting the Frankfurter Kunstverein as a cultural forum. The art institution is often perceived only in terms of being a provider of cultural experiences and services. 10 Reasons to Be a Member instead imagines how it is possible for the visitor to be not only consumer, but to also take an active part in the cultural life of the city; to come closer to art and culture without losing one’s critical distance.
